One huge advantage/perk about working in the hospitality industry out here within the French Alps is... Unwanted goods!!! Yes, that's right the 'left overs'. Its surprising how much you can learn to appreciate something more when your circumstances change or you experience a new way of living. Everything out here is so expensive that sometimes you feel the need to go without, just make do and it just goes to show how ignorant the human mind can be when we have everything we want at hand.
Food glorious food, its enough to make a feast out of. No, seriously though you would not imagine how much top quality, unopened, untouched produce and beverages is left for waste. Pasta, bread, cheese, meat, wine, spirits, the list goes on...
A good few months ago I was literally given a black winter jacket, my first initial thought was 'ideal' as the only other jacket I owned at the time was my ski jacket. This has kept me warm for sure and has saved me splashing out on something I probably wouldn't of been able to afford. Or shall I say unnecessary purchases. Along with the jacket was a pair of ski goggles, which was a shame as a few days beforehand I had just purchased my own. Never mind, now I have two pairs to play with. I was interested to see how much these goods are worth so I decided to do a little research and looked them up on the trusty web. I found details on the Anon ski goggles, from a UK store they are worth around £50 so that's approx 60 euros. Unfortunately I didn't find any details on the jacket although the brand is highly popular.
Waste not, want not.
